User Privacy Agreement

This Privacy Notice outlines how Tena Pesa collects, handles, and protects the information you provide when using our mobile application. By accessing or continuing to use the app, you acknowledge and agree to the practices described in this policy. If you disagree with any part of this notice, we advise that you discontinue using the app immediately.

1. Information We Collect

To deliver financial services responsibly, assess risk, and verify your identity, we may collect various types of personal and technical information, including but not limited to:

  • Personal Identification Details
    Your full name, gender, date of birth, marital status, and a valid government-issued ID may be collected for verification purposes.
  • Employment & Income Details
    You may be asked to provide job-related details such as employment type and estimated monthly income.
  • Contact References
    You may optionally submit names and phone numbers of individuals who can serve as your references, along with your relationship to them.
  • Banking and Payment Information
    To process disbursements and repayments, we may request your M-PESA or bank account details.
  • Facial Recognition Data
    For identity confirmation, we may request a live photo (selfie) along with your ID.

2. Device Access and Permissions

We may request access to certain device features and data, with your permission, for fraud prevention and user verification:

  • Camera Access
    Needed only when capturing your ID and selfie during the verification process. Only the approved images are encrypted and transmitted securely.
  • Storage Access
    With your consent, we may temporarily access local files on your device to upload images or documents required during the loan application.
  • Device and Network Data
    Information such as phone model, OS version, screen resolution, SIM details, carrier info, language settings, and network status may be used to detect fraud and improve app performance.
  • SMS
    Our app collects and monitors your SMS information to help build a more complete financial profile. This enables us to conduct credit risk assessments, understand your financial status, and provide appropriate credit analysis to meet your borrowing needs. It also enhances the security of our loan services, ensuring that loan funds are accurately disbursed to your personal account. Therefore, before you submit a loan application, we require your authorization to access and collect SMS information. We are committed to encrypting the data and using secure technologies to protect your personal information, so you can use our services with confidence. If you choose not to grant authorization, we will be unable to collect the necessary data, and some features of the app may not function properly.

3. Behavioral Data

We may track in-app behavioral signals such as button taps, page navigation, and session timing. This information is anonymized and used strictly to optimize system performance and security.

4. Advertising ID

Your device's advertising identifier (e.g., Google Ad ID) may be used for analytics and ad performance tracking. This ID will not be linked to your personal data without your consent, and we honor your advertising preferences as set in your device settings.

5. Technical and Usage Logs

We may collect log data including your IP address, app version, session duration, device type, and general usage patterns to monitor application functionality and improve user experience.

6. Third-Party Services

We may work with third-party vendors for identity verification, cloud storage, analytics, or customer support. These providers have access only to the data necessary to perform their services and are bound by strict confidentiality agreements.

7. Children's Data

Our services are not designed for individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors. If such data is identified, it will be removed from our system promptly.

This Privacy Notice may be updated from time to time to reflect legal, technical, or business changes. All revisions will be posted within the app and/or on this page. Continued use of the app indicates acceptance of any modifications.
